I finally got off of coffee!
I don’t think you guys understand the enormous mental weight that this relieved me of.
I’ve probably had at least a cup of coffee a day since high school. Sure, that’s not as bad as it could be, but coffee had come with some downsides. After the productive high it would give me, I would either go two ways: 1) Crash and burn, or 2) Get too hyper and become anxious. Neither of those options were wonderful to deal with in the middle of a work day, or even in the middle of a day where you just want to run errands and get stuff done. And often, when I would go the crash and burn route, I would reach for ANOTHER cup of coffee! Not to mention, I took my coffee with cream and sugar, which doesn’t seem like much at first, but actually adds up if you have multiple cups. Coffee was ruining my life and I had to stop!
Once I dropped coffee, I fully embraced the world of tea. The endless amounts of variety, flavors, and benefits tea has makes this new habit even more enjoyable. Since tea still has some caffeine, it’s been perfect for when I first wake up in the morning and in the afternoon when I need a pick-me-up. I no longer feel the drag and misery of having high levels of caffeine running through my body all day. It makes me feel so much healthier!
Additionally, the process of making tea has become somewhat of a ritual for me. During the night shifts, whenever I have a free hour, I calmly nurse a warm cup of black tea and enjoy the simple quiet of the night. Sometimes I would do it with one of my co-workers, and we would sit and have a nice chat with our teas.
Anyways, I wanted to share what some of my favorite teas are so far. These guys have been wonderful:
My Morning Tea
Numi’s Organic Breakfast Blend
This is the tea I brew for myself in the morning! Black tea has about half of the caffeine of a cup of coffee, so it wakes me up real gentle. I love the taste and smell of black coffee so it instantly helps me focus on my positive intentions for the day.
My Afternoon Tea
Tazo’s Organic Pan-Fired Green Tea
Tazo Organic Pan-Fired Green Tea, 20-Count Teabags (Pack of 6)I especially love green teas for their anti-inflammatory properties. And this one has a nice roasted flavor to it. I love to brew a cup in the afternoon when the chaos has gone down a bit to celebrate the things accomplished so far in the day.
My Sweet-Tooth Tea
(great for after dinner!)
Tazo’s Organic Baked Cinnamon Apple Tea
I have the biggest sweet tooth and I’m not afraid to say it! This has been absolutely amazing to drink after dinner when you have cravings for dessert creeping up on you. I brew this and add a touch of stevia to give it the perfect sweetness. This is the tea I cuddle up with on the couch when relaxing in the evening.
So far, I’ve been trying to stick with organic teas, only because if I’m going drink lots of something, I’d rather feel the safety in knowing it hasn’t been sprayed with yucky chemicals. However, there is one tea that I absolutely LOVE, but I don’t keep massive quantities of it in my house because it’s not organic….
My Guilty Pleasure Tea
You see that “100% Natural” label on that thing? Any company can use that label. There are no regulations on what is considered “natural” and what is not. So I’m not fooled by the label hehe. I just enjoy in small quantities from time to time 🙂
And that’s about it so far! My plan is to expand into loose leaf teas, but they are just so expensive! There are Teavana and Capital Teas stores by my house, so eventually I’ll muster up the courage to go in there and give them a go.
Are you a tea junkie, too? What are your favorites? Any recommendations for me? Leave a comment down below!
